Thru-Axle

A thru-axle is a modern wheel-retention system that secures your bike wheel by passing a thick, solid rod completely through the frame/fork and hub, threading directly into the opposite side. Unlike traditional quick-release skewers that clamp onto open dropouts, thru-axles provide a closed, highly rigid, and incredibly secure connection.
