Freehub

A freehub is a part of a bicycle’s rear hub that allows the rear wheel to spin freely when the rider stops pedaling, while still engaging the drivetrain when pedaling forward. It’s the mechanism that enables coasting. The freehub houses a ratcheting mechanism and provides a splined surface for attaching the cassette.
